Momoko Abe

A little about Momoko

Born and bred in Japan, Momoko grew up in a house made of book shelves (her grandpa was a poet, her dad was a writer and her mum was a school teacher), where she was allowed to doodle on the walls (or she thought she was). As a child, she drew all the time, even during a school exam on the back of an exam paper!

Her interest in visual storytelling led her to the UK to study filmmaking when she was 20. She still works in a post-production company. However, she has decided to pursue her dream to be a children’s book illustrator.

She is drawn to dynamic compositions and beautiful colour combinations, and animals and food are her favourite subjects to draw. She enjoys using both traditional media such as gouache paints and colour pencils as well as a computer.

Momoko now lives in London with her cat Clementine. When she is not drawing or writing stories, she enjoys baking, going to dance classes, and catching up with her friends over a nice cup of tea and cakes.
