Susie Jenkin-Pearce (who works under the pseudonym Sam Childs) was brought up in Harrow and has made pictures for as long as she can remember. She studied Fine Art at Hornsey Art School and worked both as an art teacher and with children with reading difficulties, where she discovered the power of the picture book. She returned to art school as a mature student and studied Illustration at Harrow College. She has worked as a writer and illustrator of children’s books since 1985.
Her precocious offspring Sam Childs (Sam could paint a pretty passable zebra when only a year old) soon seemed to take over her life and they now work together in perfect harmony. Susie lives between Camden Town and an isolated cottage in Lincolnshire with her architect husband. She has two children and three grandchildren. As well as illustrating, Susie also works as a fabric designer and her love of beautiful fabrics is shown in the college work used in the BOOBELA books and KAVE TINA ROX.
