Sam Childs is a pseudonym for Susie Jenkin - Pearce. She decided to work under another name when she developed a style so very different from any work she'd ever done before. Having five very different styles already was confusing enough! Susie was born in London and studied illustration at Harrow Art School. Her first job was as an art teacher in a large comprehensive school.

She also worked with children who had reading difficulties at which point her love of picture books really developed. Her first book was published in 1983 by OUP and she has since worked consistently, producing more than forty books, some written by herself.

Susie lives with architect, David Jenkin, in London. She has two children and two grandchildren - her excuse for endless buying of children's books.
