Since leaving college Nigel has been a teacher, a lecturer, a potter, has worked in advertising and drawn backgrounds for animated films. He has also produced many picture books, some of these written by himself. In recent years he has worked in pencil and watercolour but is always looking for new ways to create images.

His writing he describes as ‘love stories for children' dealing with children's interaction with each other and the adults in their lives in seemingly simple situations.

Brought up in The Lake District he spent many years living in London and Windsor but has now returned and lives happily back in his home region with his wife and two border collies, Lucy and Meg. He loves the rural life and the animals that live in his environment – the otters in the river, the badgers and deer in the garden and the birds. He is an avid reader and once sat down with a book he rarely gets up until it is finished.
