Literary
Agent specialising in representation of authors and illustrators
who
produce fiction for children’s books - from toddler
to teenage.
I was born and brought up in The
Lake District and studied English at Manchester
before working as a teacher and librarian in a middle
school. My passion for children’s books extended
out of the classroom to editing a book magazine,
radio and TV and numerous book fairs sponsored by
publishers. As a result I was
offered the position of Manager of The Puffin Club
and Puffin School Book Clubs. I went on to become
the first director of The Children’s Book
Foundation and then Head of Marketing for Macmillan
Children’s Books. After seven years in publishing
I decided I wanted to work more closely with authors
and illustrators and joined a major London literary
agency before setting up my own company in 1992.
Missing my home area I moved back to The Lake District
National Park in 2001 where I live with my husband
and two border collies. I regularly visit London
and New York on business.
When not working or reading I love walking and gardening.
I have a passion for the Arts and Crafts Movement
(have been collecting for more than twenty years)
and wildlife (nearest neighbours are badgers and
have regular visits from foxes and deer).
