About the agency

I was born and brought up in the Lake District and studied English at Manchester before working as a teacher and librarian in a middle school. My passion for children’s books extended out of the classroom to editing a book magazine and organising numerous book fairs sponsored by publishers. As a result I was offered the position of manager of the Puffin Club and Puffin School Book Clubs. I went on to become the first director of the Children’s Book Foundation and then head of marketing for Macmillan Children’s Books. After several years in publishing I joined a major London literary agency before setting up my own company. Missing my home area I moved back to the Lake District National Park in 2001 where I live with my husband and Bess, my border collie. I regularly visit London and New York on business.
When not working or reading I love walking and gardening. I have a passion for the Arts and Crafts Movement and wildlife (nearest neighbours are badgers and have regular visits from foxes and deer).
